Govt not interfering in promotions of civil servants: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk/APP) – Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Tuesday said the promotions of the civil servants was based on merit, transparency and qualifications and was not on provincial preferences.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was responding to a point raised by Syed Khurshid Shah in the Parliament House who wanted to know why the civil servants from Sindh were being ignored in the promotions of officers of BS 21 and BS 22.

The Prime Minister said promotions in the higher grades was an issue of merit and not a provincial matter. He said he has neither appointed the Chairman Public Service Commission nor the government has any role in the promotions of civil servants.

He said he has full faith in merit and transparency alone as these were the key to good governance. The government has a principled stance on the matter and remains committed to ensuring that only the deserving get promoted, he added.

The Prime Minister said the performance, integrity and good repute of an officer were the real attributes that mattered.

He assured Syed Khurshid Shah that there would not be any discrepancy in this regard and said he would personally review the matter when it was brought to his knowledge. He assured in case of any injustice, it would be rectified.
