CALIFORNIA – The US technology giant has launched a new Google Pay application for its android users.
The new application will replace mainstream payment services – Android Pay and Google Wallet, the California-based company said in a recent blog post.
The Google Pay will soon be supported by Chrome and Google Assistant.
The application has two-tab homepage which shows recent payment activity, local offers and also displays nearby stores that accept payment via Google Pay. There is also a ‘Cards’ page which divides out individual credit, debit, gift and reward cards.
Google Pay works for transit fares in Kiev, London, and Portland at the moment, with more cities promised to come soon.
Google also plans to integrate “Google Pay Send” into the app, letting the users send money to friends by using their phone number, similar to Venmo or Square Cash.
The Google Pay has an extra layer of security as compared to using a credit or debit card directly since your actual card number isn’t shared when you use it at stores.
Google Pay is available now at Google Play Store for Android users (however, an iOS version is currently unavailable). Users who already have Android Pay installed on their devices will get the new application automatically the next time they get an update.
