WELLINGTON (Web Desk) – New Zealand has reached semi-finals after beating West Indies in World Cup quarter-finals in Wellington on Saturday.
Martin Guptill scored apparently unbeatable record 237 runs, while New Zealand made 393-6 in total batting first against the West Indies in World Cup quarter-finals.
Though WI’s Chris Gayle managed to score 61, the whole team returned to pavilion after only making 250 runs.
Guptill has passed Chris Gayle’s previous World Cup best of 215 made earlier in the tournament against Zimbabwe. He also posted the second-highest individual score in all one-day internationals, behind Rohit Sharma’s 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata last year, and broke his own record of 189 not out against England at Southampton in 2013.
As Guptill chewed up the weakening West Indies attack, he hit 24 fours and 11 sixes from 163 deliveries faced.
New Zealand and South Africa are scheduled to play the first semi-finals on Tuesday, while Australia and India have already qualified for the second semi-final and will have a match on March 26, 2015.
