Two military officials under investigation for espionage: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI – The spokesperson of Pakistan’s armed force revealed on Friday that two senior servicemen had been nabbed and facing investigations for espionage charges.

Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi, Major General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor expressed that the duo was not part of a network and the army chief had ordered their court-martial.

The arrests indicated a robust accountability system in place in the armed forces, he observed.

Maj-Gen Asif Ghafoor also announced that former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt-Gen (retd) Asad Durrani had been found guilty of violating the military’s code of conduct for which he is no more entitled to pension and facilities.

Lt-Gen (retd) Durrani has co-authored a book, The Spy Chronicles, with Amarjit Singh Dulat, a former chief of Indian spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and faced criticism for opening up about different events like Kargil War and operation against Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.

The press conference was called amid rising threats by India in the aftermath of February 14 Pulwama suicide attack in occupied Kashmir in which over 40 soldiers were left dead.

‘Don’t mess with Pakistan,’ the spokesperson addressed India in clear-worded remarks.
