Nawaz, Shahbaz discuss NA-122 verdict aftermath with Ayaz Sadiq

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday held a meeting with former National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq at his residence.

They discussed the newly prevailing situation after an Election Tribunal ordered re-poll in NA-122 while declaring the election of Ayaz Sadiq null and void.

According to PML-N sources, the political heads were thoroughly briefed about Tribunal’s verdict on the occasion. They agreed to utilize their right to appeal in apex court.

Earlier an Election Tribunal’s Judge Kazim Malik  ordered re-election in NA-122, declaring elections held in 2013 as null and void on Saturday.

The Election Tribunal announced its verdict regarding alleged rigging in NA-122, where Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Ayaz Sadiq stood victorious against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran khan in the last general elections.

Ayaz Sadiq was elected speaker of the National Assembly following the May 11, 2013 general elections.

Imran Khan had challenged the election result of NA-122 before the election tribunal, accusing the PML-N of carrying out rigging in the constituency.

The tribunal had reserved the verdict on August 17.
