ISLAMABAD – Opposition leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Wednesday ruled out an option to support ruling party’s desire to amend Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, local media reported.
Talking to media, Shah said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will not approve any amendment aiming at saving an individual as such acts become questionable and are challenged in the court.
He clarified that his party will not be part of any amendment to “save a person”.
He said that PML-N had not come forward when the PPP desired to amend the articles introduced by former dictator General (reted) Ziaul Haq.
“We want to restore the Constitution as introduced by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto,” he said.
It is notable that PML-N’s former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution by announcing a landmark verdict on July 28 in Panama Papers case.
On Tuesday, Law Minister Zahid Hamid asked for amending the articles during the National Assembly session, adding that the NA committee on Electoral Reforms will present suggestions regarding amendments.
