ISLAMABAD – The chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Justice (r) Javed Iqbal has expressed his resolve to uproot the cancer of corruption from Pakistan, a press release said on Sunday.
The NAB chief added that the recent Gallup and Gillani survey declared that 59 percent of Pakistanis expressed their satisfaction over the anti-corruption watchdog’s performance while the country is occupying 107th position from out of 140 countries in the World Economic Forum’s Corruption Perception Index.
The retired judge went on to say that everybody in Pakistan wants an end to corruption. But, he said, the only solution to eliminate corruption is self-accountability. “If we avoid nepotism and bribes while following the principle of self-accountability, it will not only bring down corruption but will also help realise the dream of ‘corruption-free’ Pakistan,” he continued.
The anti-graft body has also taken anti-money laundering measures, Iqbal said, vowing all the money plundered through corruption will be brought back to the country according to the laws.

The statement also quoted the NAB chief saying that a 10-month period has been fixed for the process of completing complaint verification to filing a corruption reference in the accountability court.
He also stressed that it is the Bureau’s priority to take the mega corruption cases to their logical conclusion and to transfer low magnitude cases to other anti-corruption departments so that the cases of all nature could be disposed of within 10 months prescribed time frame.
The NAB chief informed that 105 out of total 179 corruption cases have been filed in various accountability courts and a total of 1,210 case of corruption, amounting to Rs900 billion, are currently under trial.
The NAB had deposited record Rs297 billion in national exchequer after recovering from the corrupt people.

He stated that the Bureau believes in investigating white collar corruption through scientific methods, which include collecting documentary evidences.
Javed Iqbal also informed that the NAB has established a separate cell for solving the issues of Pakistan’s business community.
