JAIPUR (INDIA) – The ‘Padmavati’ row has taken even a uglier turn. A dead body was found in Jaipur’s Nahargarh fort with a note attached that pointed out its link to the film and controversies related to it.
The note on the rock said, “We don’t burn effigies, we kill.” With “Padmavati” written on another rock.
The group, Rashtriya Chetna Manch, had burnt the Padmavai’s director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s effigy earlier.
An official of Rajput Karni Sena group condemned the act saying, “This is not the way to send a message. If anyone wants to send out a message of such sort, it is imparting a wrong message. Opposition to Padmavati is justified, but this is not justified.”
The body of the deceased is yet to be identified. The nature of death, whether suicide or murder, is yet to be decided by the police as well.
There is a division between historians on whether the tale of Alaudin Khilji and Rani Padmani is reality or just a work of fiction. Rani Padmani was first mentioned in the 16th-century epic poem “Padmavat”.
‘Padmavati’ release has also been postponed indefinitely following the violent death threats made to the cast of the film by Hindu extremist groups.
