MS Dhoni to perform military duty in Kashmir

NEW DELHI – Top Indian cricketer MS Dhoni would be performing duties as a militaryman in Kashmir, skipping the tour of the West Indies, it emerged on Thursday.

The 38-year-old player will go on patrol with the 106 Para TA Battalion during his stint in the restive region; the athlete would perform patrol, guard and post duties for 16 days from July 31 to August 15.

“The unit is in Kashmir Valley as part of Victor Force exercise and will be taking the duties of patrolling, guard and post duty and shall be staying with troops,” Army officials said.

Army Chief General Bipin Rawat had approved former Indian cricket team skipper Dhoni’s request to train with the Parachute regiment following which player made himself unavailable for the West Indies tour; Dhoni was awarded the honorary rank of a lieutenant colonel in 2011.
