LONDON – Australia defeated host England by 64 runs at the Lord’s on Tuesday, becoming the first team to reach the semi-finals of ICC World Cup 2019.
Batting first, Aussies posted a total of 285 for the loss of seven wickets after England’s captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Aaron Finch scored 100 while David Warner contributed 53 to the total; Chris Woakes took two wickets.
In response, England managed to score merely 221 runs in 44 overs before being bowled out by Aussies.
Jason Behrendorff took 5 wickets while Mitchell Starc sent 4 English batsmen to the pavilion; England has garnered 8 points so far in the tournament.
The match started at 02:30PM Pakistan Standard Time (PST).
Defending champions Australia currently hold the second spot on the points table with 10 points, while hosts England occupy the fourth spot with eight points after two defeats.
Australia have made two changes: Jason Behrendorff and Lyon replacing Nathan Coulter-Nile and Adam Zampa.
England are unchanged from Friday’s defeat to Sri Lanka.
Pakistan will play their 7th match of the world cup against New Zealand at Birmingham tomorrow.
