PERTH – A Pakistani woman was left in a pool of her own blood in her apartment stairwell after a night out with friends in Perth early Saturday.
The woman, Mehreen Ahmed who is studying primary education was attacked by a man Eduardo Santos Abrahao Filho, according to police.
It is believed that Ahmed and Filho were with a group of friends who ended up at the Murray Street unit, but when Ms Ahmad left to get cigarettes she never returned. She is understood to have been at a friend’s apartment
The 30-years-old student was shifted to Royal Perth hospital in a precarious condition where she is still fighting for life owing to severe injuries and excessive blood loss.
What happened at the staircase is till not clear however the police arrested the 27-years-old suspect and charged him with causing grievous bodily harm.
Mehreen’s family flew from Dubai on Sunday and thanked staff and management of Royal Perth Hospital besides describing their daughter as a loving and caring person with a vibrant personality.
“Mehreen has been through an extremely traumatic experience which should not have happened and one which no person should have to endure,” the family said in a statement.
“We will be by her side as she fights to recover.” it added.
On the other hand, Filho appeared in Perth Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody till his next court date on June 7.
