PML-N leaders lambast Panama verdict as court disqualifies PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD – Key leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday lambasted the Panama verdict in which the Supreme Court had disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

Khawaja Saad Rafique, Ahsan Iqbal, Zaid Hamid, Barrister Zafarullah and others held a press conference after the verdict.

Talking to media, Barrister Zafarullah said that the verdict did not meet the legal obligations, adding that a major part of the JIT’s investigations are comprised of reports.

He said that Nawaz Sharif has not been ousted on Panama leaks, but on the basis of a salary of FZE Capital company, which former prime minister never withdrew.

Saying that he was unable to understand the process of prosecution, Zafarullah said that hearing on JIT report was conducted by a three-member bench but the decision was announced by a five-member bench.

Endorsing the previous stance of the ruling family, he said: “Even being a lawyer I cannot not make such report in a year which was prepared in 60 days.”

Khawja Saad Rafique said that it was not a historic but a black day. Without naming any institution, he said: “The play of “Sadiq and Amin” should be extended to where decisions are made”.

Calling Imran Khan a “show boy,” Rafique said that Khan repeatedly tried derail the government of PML-N as he adopted every tactic against it.

He said that Nawaz Sharif has been punished for opening a new era of development in the country.

Ahsan Iqbal criticising the decision said that not a single prime minister in Pakistan has completed the tenure of five year since independence. Next prime minister will be from our party, he added.

There is no prime minister and cabinet in the country, he said.
