ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Tuesday demoted 121 officials of Punjab Police who had been given out-of-turn promotions.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim disposed off a petition filed by affected police officials. The court also directed the officials to avail an option of early retirement, reported Dawn News.
However, the petitioners refused to get early retirement on which the court ordered withdrawal of their promotions.
The 121 officials also include nine senior-ranking officers, who were promoted by Punjab Promotion Board.
Earlier in 2013, the apex court had declared the out-of-turn promotions a violation of the Constitution and announced verdict that no police officer or civil servant was entitled to any such promotion on account of a gallantry award or otherwise.
