ISLAMABAD – Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday ordered the removal of containers from the capital and barred police from illegal detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers.
The decision came as PTI challenged illegal arrests of its workers during workers workers convention last night . The petition was filed by Muhammad Bilal and Nisar Azeem’s lawyer Niazullah Niazi.
When Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui questioned that whether it will be a peaceful protest or lockdown of capital, the PTI lawyer replied that they will record a peaceful protest according to law.
The petition had adopted stance that PTI’s youth convention in sector I-11 has constitutional safeguard however; dozens of party workers have been shifted to undisclosed location after detention.
The plea informed that PTI’s peaceful protest is scheduled on November 2.It urged that according to the constitution, no one can be arrested without any charges and cause.The plea also explained that despite of political freedom PTI works are being arrested unconstitutionally.
Interior secretary, Inspector General Police, Chief Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner were made party in the petition, Dunya News reported.
Police raided a youth convention for opposition leader Imran Khan’s party, charging activists with batons and arresting dozens of people. the party stalwarts protested heavily on the arrest terming it illegal.
PTI is due toflex its muscles on November 2 in a bid to lock down capital to push government for a probe into Panama papers truce.
On the other hand, IHC had barred party from locking down the capital. The federal government also stands firm that the capital would not be shut under any condition.
Meanwhile, Khan’s ally Shaiekh Rasheed’s Lal Haveli has also been sealed with containers here on Friday as he is due to address a public gathering in next few hours.
