Unfortunate that tweets being used by institutions to handle key matters, Nisar reacts to ISPR tweet

ISLAMABAD – Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said it was unfortunate that tweets were being used by institutions to handle key matters.

“Let me first say that I believe that tweets, sent out by whichever institution, are a deadly poison for Pakistan’s democracy, system and justice,” the minister said.  “We handle very serious matters with tweets and that is very unfortunate.”

He slammed what he said was ‘unnecessary noise’ surrounding the directives issued by the PM’s Office earlier in the day.

“You may be surprised to hear this, but the notification was supposed to be issued by the interior ministry [not the PM’s Office], and we haven’t issued one yet.”

“We asked the prime minister to give us his in principal approval to issue the notification, but the notification never came to us.”

“This document [from the PM’s Office] is addressed to the interior ministry. We are yet to issue our notification in this regard.”

“How did it [PM Office’s directive] get out?” he asked.

Nisar asked why there was speculation about the government’s notification when none was yet issued. “When no notification has yet been issued, what is all the fuss about?” he remarked.

“According to the Rule of Business, the PM Office cannot issue a notification. A notification [in this regard] will be issued by the Ministry of Interior and not the PM Office,” he said.

He added that the notification would be “exactly the same as the recommendations of the committee”.

“I had stated earlier that PM had in letter and spirit accepted the recommendations of the committee. They will be implemented in a similar manner when Interior Ministry issues the notification,” he said.

Pakistan Army on Saturday bluntly rejected government’s notification issued today by Dawn Leaks Inquiry Committee, calling it ‘incomplete’.

“Notification on Dawn Leak is incomplete and not in line with recommendations by the Inquiry Board. Notification is rejected,” DG ISPR, Major General Asif Ghafoor tweeted.
