CHRISTCHURCH – A memorial service was held in Christchurch today (Friday), to honour the victims of March-15th attacks on the mosques in New Zealand.
More than 20,000 people attended the event at the city’s Hagley Park, amid tight security.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern spoke at the event which was televised around the country, along with Muslim leaders and a survivor of the deadly attack which killed 50 worshipers two weeks ago.
Addressing the memorial service, attended by dozens of representatives of governments from around the world, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said, a global effort is needed to end the vicious cycle of extremism.
She said, we must not bound to domestic borders, ethnicity and power based governance systems, and allow humanity to prevail.
Jacinda Ardern announced that Prince William will visit New Zealand next month to meet and condole with the survivors of the attack.
