LAHORE – A mistake to take action against influential persons has left Pakpattan former District Police Officer (DPO) Rizwan Gondal without both a salary and a job since his scandalous removal despite the fact that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and the then IGP had apologised to Supreme Court over his wrong transfer on political pressure.
The provincial government removed Gondal as Pakpattan DPO in August and later his services were surrendered to the federal government on September 7. However, he has not been assigned any new post, a leading newspaper reported, adding that the removed officer has not been given a single penny as his salary.
A major hurdle in his next appointment is that the Establishment Division has not yet received Punjab government’s Sept 7 notification surrendering the services of Gondal despite the lapse of several weeks, a move that depicts hidden revenge by the provincial government. The victim reportedly tried to contact high-ups repeatedly but all efforts went in vain.

The newspapers termed the DPO’s surrender order as controversial as it was issued without waiting for the decision of the apex court over its suo motu notice regarding the transfer of Gondal from Pakpattan.
On Oct 8, the top court disposed of the suo motu case after it accepted the written apologies submitted by Buzdar, ex-IGP Kaleem Imam and others for wrongly transferring Gondal, accepting their mistake.
On October 3, an inquiry report of the matter was submitted before the SC, stating that the ex-DPO was relocated due to political intervention and the orders for his transfer was issued midnight by the CM office whereas the then IGP had acted as a rubber stamp.
