ISLAMABAD – Jamia Farooqia Gulistan Colony, Rawalpindi won the first Madrassa League tape ball cricket tournament after thrashing Madrassa Maaz Bin Jabbal, Islamabad by 7 wickets in the final played at Muslim High School ground over the weekend.
A total of 12 teams participated in the two-day mega event, organised by District Sports Office in collaboration with Education department.
Additional Commissioner Rawalpindi Tariq Salam Marwat graced the occasion as chief guest, while Sports Officer Waqar Malik, DSO Abdul Waheed Babar along with the administrators of religious seminaries distributed the prizes among the teams.
Maaz Bin Jabbal after winning the toss opted to bat first in the final match and could score 38 runs in allotted 8 overs. Jamia Farooqia Gulistan Colony achieved the target in the 4th over losing 3 wickets.
In the first match of the first day (Jan 3), Madrassa Anwar-ul-Uloom overpowered Madrassa Furqania Dabook Khabba by 61 runs. Anwar-ul-Uloom, batting first, scored 113 runs with Asif Bilal hitting 50 and in reply, Madrassa Furqania could score 52.
The second match was won by Tameer-ul-Quran, who routed Jamia Sirajia by 13 runs. Tameer-ul-Quran scored 53 runs and in reply, Jamia Sirajia could score 40.
In the third match, Jamia Furqania Kohati Bazar thrashed Madrassa Taleem Abrar by 10 wickets. Madrassa Taleem Abrar scored 47 runs which Jamia Furqania achieved in just one over without any loss.
The fourth match of the day was won by Madrassa Muaz Bin Jabal, who defeated Ashaab-e-Sufha by 17 runs.
Religious seminaries administrators thanked District Sports and Education Department for such wonderful event.
