Two polio cases in as many days – one in Lakki Marwat, another in Bajaur Agency

LAHORE – Another child falls prey to the parental refusal in Bajaur Agency as a two and a half-year-old child was just diagnosed with poliomyelitis on Friday.

According to an official of Polio Emergency Operation Centre, the child’s father allowed polio drops to daughters but kept his son away from polio immunization teams during anti-polio drives. He said that this was the 10th polio case of the year 2018.

He said that six polio cases were reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the year 2018 included one from Charssada, one from Lakki Marwat, three from Bajour and one from Khyber.

“One polio case was reported in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Thursday,” the official added.

 

He said that the center had also confirmed on Thursday polio case reported from Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) in 16 months child Anam.

He said that samples of child’s blood were collected in December 2018, therefore the case belongs to last year tally.

He said that the symptoms of polio in the child’s blood were observed on December 10, 2018. The health officials sent her samples to the National Institute of Health immediately for confirmation.

He said that the institute confirmed in its reports that the girls carry poliovirus.

He said that was the ninth case of the year 2018, which was reported from Marmundu Azam of Lakki Marwat district.
