Chhattisgarh: BJP lawmaker among 5 killed in Maoist rebel attack

DANTEWADA – A sitting lawmaker of the India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with five security personnel have been killed in an attack by Maoists-Naxals on a BJP convoy in the central state of Chhattisgarh, two days before this year’s general elections begin.

Bheema Mandavi, the BJP legislator from Dantewada, was travelling in the last vehicle of the convoy which was hit by an IED blast on Tuesday evening.

The IED blast was followed by a round of firing by the separatists, the Indian Today reported.

A gunfight between the Maoists and security personnel is reportedly on.

Chhattisgarh votes in three phases in the national election – April 11, April 18 and April 23.
