LAHORE – A senior judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan resigned from his post on Tuesday amid scrutiny by the Supreme Judicial Council.
The judge – who was named in Panama Papers for having offshore properties – forwarded his resignation to President Arif Alvi and also informed the Supreme Judicial Council of his decision.
Farrukh Irfan was appointed as a judge of the LHC on 20 February 2010; he was set to retire on June 22, 2020.
The Supreme Judicial Council – a constitutional body which hears cases of misconduct against judges – was hearing a reference against Justice Farrukh after his name surfaced in the Panama Papers.

In the Panama Papers leak unearthed in 2016, as many as two companies registered in British Virgin Island were linked with Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan and his daughter.
Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan was associated with Anrol Limited and Tramalin Limited in different time periods.
Anrol Limited was registered on April 14, 2000, while Tramalin Limited was registered on July 24, 2003.
Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan was appointed Tramalin’s director on October 18, 2004, and resigned on July 1, 2012. He was replaced by her daughter, Maria Farrukh Khan on the same date.
Panama Papers record revealed that the judge was appointed Anrol’s director on November 25, 2002, from which he resigned on October 11, 2011. His daughter Maria was appointed a director on the day her father resigned from Anrol.
According to LHC website, Farrukh Irfan was inducted as high court judge on February 20, 2010, implying that he had been running the company after assuming charge as a judge.

The offshore entity Anrol has been used for purchasing property in London through loan facility granted by Bank of Scotland. A dwelling house, Plot 13, Westwood Pembroke Road was purchased through the firm while another facility Plot 14, Westwood Pembroke Road was also bought.
Another loan facility was signed by Anrol for the purchase of property in London, W2 2RE while the activity of the second company, Tramalin Ltd, was described by Miss Maria Farrukh Irfan Khan as ‘to buy property for producing a rental income’.
