LAHORE (Staff Report) – Indian Bhangra singer Sukhbir Singh was held up at Allama Iqbal International Airport on Sunday night, after he was told by the airport authorities that he could not carry more cash than the permissible limit of $10,000.
Singh was carrying $29000 when he arrived at the airport. The singer was in Lahore to perform at the marriage ceremony of the grandson of a close associate of former primer Benazir Bhutto.
Sukhbir was given $30,000 to perform on August 7 and 8. Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali also performed during the ceremony.
Indian news channel NDTV reports that before check-in Singh asked the authorities how much amount he could carry abroad. On learning that permissible limit is $10,000, he left the airport as he had more than the permissible amount.
Whereas, the Pakistani media reports that the Indian singer was taken in for interrogation when he somehow managed to dodge the authorities and flee the airport premises, leaving behind his luggage and the recovered currency.
