INDIA: An elaborate floral-shaped ring sporting 12,638 tiny diamonds has earned a place in the Guinness World Records but its Indian creator has no plans to sell his priceless design yet.
Named as “The Marigold – The Ring of Prosperity”, it is believed in the Indian culture that Marigold brings prosperity and luck. The chunky circular band weighs a little over 165 grams (5.8 ounces).
The 25-year-old Harshit Bansal described his audacious piece as a dream project of Renani Jewels saying “It’s wearable and comfortable,”
The Meerut-based jeweller revealed he got the idea while studying jewellery design in the western city of Gujarat’s Surat, India’s diamond hub and said:
“It all started when my wife and I read about a Guinness record of a ring with 6,690 diamonds in 2018. This was around the time when I was opening my first store in Meerut. Always aiming at making customised jewellery, this was a challenge of sorts. The work on the ring started in 2018 and it was completed by February 2020.”
“My target was always more than 10,000 diamonds. I trashed many designs and concepts over the years to finally zero in on this,” Bansal told Agence French-Presse (AFP).
In a statement, his company said that each tiny petal in the ring’s eight-layer flower design was unique.
Bansal said he had already declined requests from prospective buyers. “We have no plans of selling it right now,” he said.
He further went on to say”It’s a matter of pride for us. It’s priceless.”
The previous record determined by Guinness was also set in India for a ring containing 7,801 diamonds.
