LAHORE (Staff Report) – Pakistani batsman Muhammad Hafeez, who previously said that he declined a BPL offer to avoid disgraced bowler Muhammad Amir, on Sunday signed an agreement with Dhaka Dynamites to play Bangladesh Premier League.
Talking to newsmen, Hafeez confirmed that he will be leaving for Bangladesh to play BPL tonight.
However he added that he will be available to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) if any cricket series is announced with India.
Eaelier Hafeez was quoted in media reports saying as “I have no personal issues with Amir or Chittagong, it’s my personal opinion that I can’t share the dressing room with someone who hurt my country’s integrity.”
On the other hand, the BPL has dismissed Hafeez’s statement that he declined offer due to presence of Muhammad Amir, without clearly stating the reason behind failure on reaching a contract with the cricketer.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) served a show-cause notice to Muhammad Hafeez for issuing statement against Muhammad Amir.
“Hafeez’s statement is apparently a violation of his central contract with the board which bars him from issuing statement without prior permission,” the notice said.
Fast bowler Amir, 23, was jailed for his part in a spot-fixing scam during the 2010 Test series in England and banned from cricket for five years, along Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt.
Amir, then 18, pleaded guilty to bowling no-balls at pre-arranged times during Pakistan’s fourth Test against England at Lord’s in 2010. He served half of a six-month jail term in Britain, while team-mates Mohammad Asif and captain Salman Butt served six and seven months respectively.
