Federal employees banned from using social media apps

ISLAMABAD – The federal government has restrained all of its employees from using social without getting permission from the authorities concerned.

An office memorandum issued by the Establishment Division states that government employees are not allowed to use any social media platform without permission.

The move, it says, aims at preventing the leakage of official information and documents on social media. All employees have been asked to strictly follow the Government Servants (Conduct) Rules 1964.

The government employees have also been barred from sharing their opinions or making statements on social media without permission. The memorandum states that they have also been barred from sharing official documents and information with unauthorised individuals.

It also highlighted that employees cannot object to government policy and decisions, adding that they would also not give any statement that can hurt ties with other coutnries.

Furthermore, the Establishment Division has asked the relevant institutions to remove objectionable content from social media. It warned to disciplinary action against the officials over violations of the instructions.
