KARACHI – Natasha Danish, the accused in the Karsaz traffic accident, will remain in jail after a court rejected her bail application in a drug-related case.
Earlier, on September 6, a Karachi court had granted her bail in the Karsaz accident case on a bond of Rs. 100,000. However, her bail request in a separate case, filed under the Narcotics Act for driving under the influence, was still pending.
In today’s hearing, the court rejected her bail plea in the drug case. According to the court’s written ruling, the defense failed to present a satisfactory argument regarding Section 11 of the law. The court also dismissed the defense’s claim that Natasha’s blood and urine samples had been mishandled.
The court noted that despite coming from a respectable background, Natasha committed a serious offense by driving under the influence without a license, resulting in the deaths of two people. It added that in cases with significant societal impact, the court has a greater responsibility, and no valid reason was given to justify her bail.
Bail Rejection Challenged
Following the court’s ruling, Natasha’s legal team immediately challenged the decision in the Sessions Court. In the petition, her lawyers argued that key evidence had been ignored in the previous hearing. They also pointed out that the victims’ families had already forgiven Natasha, urging the court to reconsider the bail decision.
Background: The Karsaz Incident
On August 19, Natasha Danish was allegedly driving her Land Cruiser recklessly under the influence of drugs on Karsaz Road. The incident led to the tragic deaths of a father and his daughter, and four others were injured. Eyewitnesses gathered at the scene and handed her over to the police. A case was registered, and Natasha was arrested.
A medical report later revealed that Natasha had been under the influence of crystal meth (ice) during the crash, resulting in additional charges under the Narcotics Act.
On September 6, in a surprising development, the victims’ families announced they had forgiven Natasha “for the sake of God.” They even submitted affidavits to the court, expressing no objection to her bail. As a result, the court granted her bail in the accident case.
However, Natasha remained in jail due to the pending drug case. With today’s court ruling denying her bail in that case, her release remains uncertain.
