ISLAMABAD/NEW YORK – Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif addressed UN General Assembly’s Summit of the Future, stressing urgency for equitable solutions to conflicts like those in Gaza to ensure global peace.
In his speech, Khawaja Asif said security challenges not only threaten current global stability but also jeopardize the future of coming generations. He called for collective international efforts to address these pressing issues and stressed the importance of reforming global systems to create better opportunities for over 100 developing nations.
At UN, the minister urged international financial institutions to provide debt relief to poorer nations and enhance their financial cooperation with developing economies. He also expressed Pakistan’s interest in leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for progress.
He called this current Summit of Future as transformative opportunity, encouraging global leaders to commit to bold solutions and establish international mechanisms that reflect the realities of the 21st century. He concluded by asserting that through collaborative efforts, the global community can work towards a safer, more just, inclusive, and prosperous future
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also landed in New York for UN General Assembly session, where he will address the assembly on Friday. His speech will focus on Pakistan’s views on key issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir conflict and the situation in Palestine, while reaffirming the country’s commitment to multilateralism and the UN’s role in promoting global peace.
