WASHINGTON (Staff Report) – World was left with open eyes last year when former United Kingdom Prime Minister Tony Blair tendered an apology for intervention in Iraq, and now United States President Barack Obama has also termed intervention in Libya as his worst mistake during two tenures in the White House.
West’s involvement in other developing countries -specially those rich with natural resources like oil- has always remained a matter of question, and the critics of such interventions just got another reason to believe in their argument during Obama’s recent interview with Fox News.
When asked about his worst mistake as US president, Obama said that ‘intervention in Libya and failing to plan for the day after President Moamar Gaddafi’ was something worst committed by him during presidency.
He, however, maintained that intervention in Libya was the right thing to be done in such a situation.
Responding to a question about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s connection with attack on US embassy in Libya, he said many investigations have been conducted into this matter by Justice Department and FBI, I guarantee that no political influence was used by him.
Obama called Hillary Clinton an outstanding Secretary of State, when asked to comment whether Hillary had compromised on US national security by using her personal email account to exchange confidential data.
“I continue to believe that she has not jeopardized America’s national security, and she would never intentionally put America in any kind of jeopardy,” he added.
During the interview, Obama also strongly defended his government’s steps to curb terrorism. He said that there has not been a US president who’s taken more terrorists off the field than me, over the last seven and a half years.
He said that as US president I have given the terrorists a clear message that they can’t change us, they can kill some of us, but we will hunt them down.
