INDIA (Web Desk) – A record-breaking baby born in India to a 19-year-old woman, Nandini, weighing in at 15-pounds (6.8kg) is believed to be the heaviest female newborn of all time, weighing the same as an average six-month-old.
Doctors believe the newborn has overtaken the previous record set by Carisa Rusack, who was born weighing 14lb 5oz (6.6 kg) in Massachusetts in 2014.
Local health officer Dr Venkatesh Raju said he had never seen a baby so big in 25 years of practice.
“She is a miracle. I believe she is not only the heaviest baby born in India but the heaviest baby girl ever born in the world,” she said.
Doctors believe that the baby is not suffering from any health issues like irregular sugar levels or thyroid.
Earlier in New Zealand, a 7kg baby boy was born in 2014.
According to the Guinness Book of Records the heaviest newborn ever was to Canadian woman Anna Bates in 1879. The boy weighed more than 10kg at birth but died shortly after.
