COLOMBO – In the sixth match of the Super Eight stage, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 61 runs, knocking the home team out of the event.
In the match played in Colombo, Sri Lanka, chasing a target of 169, managed to score 107 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted overs.
For Sri Lanka, Kamindu Mendis was the top scorer with 31 runs. Dunith Wellalage made 29, Kusal Mendis 11, Pavan Rathnayake 10, Charith Asalanka 5, captain Dasun Shanaka 3, Dushan Hemantha 3, and Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for 0.
Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana remained unbeaten on 1 run each.
For the Kiwis, Rachin Ravindra took four wickets while Matt Henry claimed two. Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips picked up one wicket each.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first by Sri Lanka, New Zealand scored 168 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted overs.
Captain Mitchell Santner top-scored with 47 runs, while Cole McConchie remained unbeaten on 31.
