New CJP takes first ever suo moto notice, summons officials on Jan 5

ISLAMABAD – After taking charge as chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Saqib Nisar has taken his first suo moto notice against the selling of substandard cooking oil at utility stores.

The Supreme Court has summoned Industries and Production secretary, Utility stores MD, NHI executive director on January 5.

A resident of Kashmir had written a letter to the apex court highlighting the issue of cooking oil, which is injurious to human health.

Justice Mian Saqib Nisar was sworn in as the 25th Chief Justice of Pakistan, here on December 31, 2016.

President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath to Justice Nisar at a ceremony held at the presidency. The president had appointed Justice Nisar as the country’s top judge on Dec 7.
