IHC grants protective bail to Sharjeel Memon

ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court granted protective bail to PPP legislator Sharjeel Inam Memon on Monday.

Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mohsin Akhter Kiyani granted bail to Sharjeel till April 5 and ordered him to submit surety bonds worth Rs 2 million.

Justice Athar Minsllah remarkedduring the proceedings that Sharjeel Memon surrendered before the bench and so there was no issue approving protective bail of a fugitive suspect.

NAB prosecutor argued that Sharjeel Memon missed protective bail granted to him adding that the Lahore High Court also turned down Sharjeel’s request for protective bail.

While talking to the media, Sharjeel Memon maintained that the cases against him were filed by Nisar and company referring to interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

He expressed that the cases against him were based on lies and so he surrendered himself before the court.

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh leader Sharjeel Inam Memon was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from Islamabad airport early Sunday morning.

Memon was living in a self-imposed exile for more than two years in Dubai and London and his arrest stirred a political storm in the country.
