Rehman Malik sees RAW behind Raymond Davis book

ISLAMABAD – Rebuffing the claims made by CIA contractor Raymond Davis, former interior minister Senator Rehman Malik has termed his book, The Contractor, a pack of lies and a conspiracy hatched by India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) to defame Pakistan’s military and civilian leaders, local media reported.

Rehman Malik, who was holding the office of interior minister in 2011 when Davis was acquitted of killing two men in Lahore, asserted in his statement on Thursday that RAW’s Additional Secretary namely Jagnathan Kumar asked Davis to write a book against money to malign the Pakistan top agency ISI.

Slamming the leaders of PML-N, he said that Pakistan was being isolated internationally but our rulers are busy in Panama case.

He added that the then-government of Pakistan Peoples Party and military leadership had decided not to give immunity to Davis and no step would be taken using executive powers. It was also decided that the US agent would not be freed till the orders of the court.

He stated that name of Davis had been put on the Exit Control List Immediately.

Then ISI chief General Shuja Pasha had informed the civilian leadership that Americans wanted to avail the right of Diyat (blood money) under Islamic law.

“The issue was handled with the cooperation of the Punjab government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior,” Malik said.

Rehman Malik revealed that he categorically turned down the request of John Kerry to grant diplomatic immunity to Davis, informing him that the agent had to face the full weight of the law.
