NEW DELHI – In a diplomatic shuffle, the Narendra Modi administration has decided to appoint Ajay Bisaria as Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan in place of Gautam Bambawale.
According to reports in Indian media, Bisaria, who is currently an ambassador to Poland, will replace Bambawale, who will be serving as ambassador to Pakistan’s closest ally China.
Bisaria is expected to take up his new position in Pakistan in October.
The high-level diplomatic reshuffle took place after India’s ambassador to China Vijay Gokhale was appointed economic relations secretary at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.
Gokhale reportedly played an active role in detente between Indian and China in the backdrop of Doklam crisis.
