PESHAWAR – An Afghan soldier, who strayed into Pakistani territory around a month ago, was released and handed over to Afghan security personnel as a goodwill gesture.
Zabihullah, son of Agha Jan was arrested by the Frontier Corps (FC) troops when he crossed Kharlachi border in Kurram Agency but on Wednesday, he was handed over to Afghan officials at Torkham border.
Frontier Constabulary Commandant Colonel Farukh Hamayun and Afghan official Colonel Nisar were present on the occasion.
Before his return, the Afghan soldier was given gifts by the Pakistani officials.
The move came two days after two Pakistani servicemen were killed in a cross-border attack from Afghanistan and week after a Pakistani official was shot dead in Kabul.
The two uneasy neighbours have recently been embroiled in intensifying border management disputes.
Pakistan on Tuesday summoned the Afghan chargé d’affaires to protest one of many incidents of attacks on Pakistani posts from the Afghan side of the border.
