LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued orders to change the name of Chubacha Underpass, which is under construction in Lahore on Canal road, to Beijing Underpass.
The longest and deepest underpass in the city is set to be inaugurated on November 25. The project has been initiated keeping in view the problems of the commuters.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) suggested three names to the chief minister, but he selected Beijing Underpass acknowledging the support of China for development projects in Punjab.
The LDA had awarded a Rs2.6 billion contract to the Habib Construction Services (HCS) for construction of the city’s longest (1.3 kilometre) underpass on the Canal Road.
The project was part of the Rs7.3 billion Canal Road Expansion project between Mall Road and Harbanspura.
