Key suspect involved in Lal Shahbaz shrine blast arrested in Karachi

KARACHI – DIG Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Aamir Farooqi said on Friday that during a raid in coordination with the Sindh Rangers, a suspect in the Sehwan suicide blast was arrested in Karachi.

While addressing a press conference today he said that Nadir Jakhrani alias Murshid was arrested in Manghopir. The Sehwan attack had been planned at a city in Nasirabad District in Balochistan called Dera Murad Jamali. He further claimed that IS’ Sindh chief had been killed while people in the group were either arrested or were on the run.

The DIG further stated that the suicide bomber who had carried out the attack in Sehwan had come from Afghanistan and it meant that ‘foreign hands’ were involved in the attack, local media reported.
Sindh Cheif Minister Murad Ali Shah who was informed of the arrest by Inspector General AD Khawaja and the additional IG of CTD lauded the performance of police officials in arresting the suspect.

At least 88 people were martyred, 343 injured this year in February when a suicide bomb ripped through the crowded Sufi shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.
IS had claimed responsibility for the attack. the suspect is said to be affiliated with a number of other banned organisations before joining IS.
