SHIMLA – An Indian Army Colonel was arrested after he was allegedly found involved in gang-rape of the daughter of a Lieutenant-Colonel posted at the Army Training Command, Shimla (ARTRAC).
The 21-year-old victim was allegedly gang-raped at the Colonel’s official residence on Monday and the FIR was registered a day later under the relevant sections of the IPC (Indian Penal Code).
A friend of the officer, present in the residence where the gang-rape took place, has also been accused in the case, but is yet to be arrested.
The relevant police officer Shimla SP Soumya Sambasivan confirmed an FIR was registered on the complaint of the survivor after conducting preliminary investigations.
‘The two men have been booked for gang rape after recording the survivor’s statement and completing medical examination’ said the police.
In her complaint, the survivor said that before the gang-rape took place, the accused had invited her along with her father to attend a programme at Shimla’s Gaiety Theatre.
The accused then took them out for dinner and suggested that the survivor live with his daughter in Mumbai to try her luck in the modelling profession.
Revealing further details, the girl disclosed that the next day, the 56-year-old army officer told her to send him her photos so that he could forward them to his daughter in Mumbai.
Once the girl forwarded the photos to him, he went a mile more and asked her to physically visit his place so he could arrange her meeting with professionals from modelling industry.
Duped by the lucrative offer, she went to his place that proved to be the bane of her life as the Colonel forced her into a room, made her drink liquor and raped her.
The Colonel’s friend allegedly helped the officer in committing the crime. The survivor alleged that not only she was raped but the officer threatened to ruin her father’s career if she disclosed it before anyone.
The Indian Army has not commented on the incident and the identity of the accused has not been revealed.
