Hank Azaria responds to ‘The Simpsons’ racial bias controversy

NEW YORK – The Simpsons actor Hank Azaria has been dubbing the voice for character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. While talking with Stephen Colbert on ‘The Late Show’, the actor said that he would be fine with the decision of giving up the role of Apu and replaced by any Indian or South Asian actor and saying it will result in more ‘inclusion’ in the sitcom’s writing room.

Azaria stated, “I think the most important thing is to listen to Indian people and their experience with it.”

He added, “I really want to see Indian, South Asian writers in the writer’s room, genuinely informing whichever direction this character takes.”

The actor expressed his views in the showing says that, “I’m perfectly willing to step aside. It just feels like the right thing to do to me.”

Azaria was concerned for the fact that Apu had caused any kind of harm and suffering to the viewers and it was ‘disturbing’ to him.
