ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad election tribunal on Tuesday cleared former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to take part in elections from the NA-53 constituency.
The tribunal set aside the orders passed by the Returning Officer who rejected the nomination papers of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader for filing incomplete affidavit form.
For the same constituency, the RO had also rejected the papers of Imran Khan and Ayesha Gulalai and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi, saying they did not fill the affidavit as per its requirement and the rejection comes over violation of Section N of the affidavit.

Talking to media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan, Abbasi expressed satisfaction over the ruling, adding that it is the time for the public to take a decision in the upcoming polls, set to be held on July 25.
He hoped that the next government will also be made by the PML-N. The former PM also lamented the arrested of a party candidate, Qamarul Islam, by the National Accountability Bureau in Saaf Pani case.
Meanwhile, the dissident leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Ayesha Gulalai, has also been allowed to take part in the elections as the tribunal has accepted her nomination papers.
