Confusion in BJP over Burhan Wani s killing after another leader calls it an accident

NEW DELHI – Bhartia Janta Party’s (BJP) ruling partner in the state of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti has said that slain pro-freedom fighter Burhan Wani could have been given a chance to escape, only a day after the deputy chief minister of Indian-held Kashmir also termed the killing an accident.

According to India’s NDTV, BJP leader Nirmal Singh said “it was an accident,” while responding to a question about the Indian operation which resulted in the death Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

“If we had known about the development earlier we would have taken some precautions prior to the operation,” he went on to say.

However, just hours after his statement was aired on TV, the BJP leader retracted it and issued a new position. “The facts have been misinterpreted in the media reports,” he said.

“I was asked about the state government’s failure on controlling the violence which took place after the operation which killed Wani. In my statement, I said precautions would have been taken so that violence would not have happened,” he said in the statement.
