Seminar on Promoting Peaceful Coexistence and Equal Citizenship held

LAHORE – Bargad organized a seminar on the theme of ‘Promoting Peaceful Coexistence and Equal Citizenship’ in collaboration with Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) to foster greater interest in transforming communities for peaceful cooperation on Thursday.

MPA Ms Sadia Sohail, in her opening remarks, discussed the historical aspect of the status of minorities along with the need to give them equal opportunities in education so that they can fulfil their potential.

She urged the youth in participation to play their role in creating a positive narrative as they form the largest chunk of the population of Pakistan today.

The other speakers also resonated with the message of the seminar and shared their experiences respective to their communities and line of work. The event facilitated the exchange of opinions and expertise regarding policies for non-Muslims. Participants welcomed the opportunity to exchange views on strategies to reduce hate speech and peacebuilding.

Mr Nishat Kazmi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology at LCWU, Ms Amina Obiad Khwaja, President of Hindu Sudhar Saba and Human Rights activist Mr Amarnath Randhawa and an independent filmmaker Mr Umair Khwaja attended the event.

Earlier this year, two other seminars on the same theme were held in collaboration with the University of Central Punjab and the University of Education, Lahore.
