LONDON (Web Desk) – The Royal Air Force (RAF) have launched first ever assault against Syria and Iraq based Islamic State militant group.
According to a statement of British Defence Ministry, the aerial attack was carried out by RAF Tornado jets in Syria.
The statement however carried no information about the targeted places and intensity of losses or deaths in the airstrike.
In a 397-223 vote, British MPs on Thursday voted to extend airstrikes against “Islamic State” into Syria.
Shadow Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn spoke passionately in support of the move, defying Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and backing the plan of PM David Cameron.
After a tumultuous day of impassioned debate, the motion to extend airstrikes against Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). Some 67 Labour MPs voted in favor of the strikes, swinging the vote in the government’s favour.
Hours after the vote, RAF jets carried out their first airstrikes on Syrian territory, a Ministry of Defence spokesman said early Thursday. He refused to give details of the specific sites targeted.
After a ten hour long debate in the House of Commons, 397 voters favoured the attacks while 223 people voted against the proposal.
Following the approval as many as four Tornado jets took off from RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus to Syria.
