Kamran Tessori quits Muttahida Qaumi Movement

KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Deputy Convener Kamran Tessori on Sunday announced his decision to quit the party citing disagreements with its leadership.

Tessori said he was not consulted for important party decisions despite the fact that he was a senior leader of the party, which made him decide to part ways with MQM.

Another reason behind his abandoning the MQM-P is said to be the rising influence of Aamir Khan’s faction in the party, in contrast to Farooq Sattar. Tessori’s resignation is not that surprising as he also did not travel to Hyderabad with the party leadership to attend a rally on Sunday.

A gold trader and former Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) leader, Tessori had joined MQM earlier this year and risen to prominence soon after.

Tessori also contested PP-114 by-election against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Saeed Ghani, in which he only managed to secure 18,000 votes. Ghani had defeated him by a margin of 5,000 votes.
