ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Railways has planned to open Pharmacies at major railway stations in the country through the invitation of bids as per Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules.
“The bids will be offered as per single stage two envelope procedure and the technical and financial proposal will be submitted by the bidders,” an official in the Ministry of Railways told APP.
He said that as per specific terms and conditions, a valid pharmacy license will be the mandatory requirement for establishment of pharmacy at any railway station.
Technical evaluation criteria, scoring procedure for the bidders have been included in the bidding documents, the official added.
He said the decision to open pharmacies was taken by the management on the directives of Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed to provide maximum facilities at the railway station to the passengers.
To a question the steps being taken by the Pakistan Railways to improve the services, he said the department was focusing on improvement of basic amenities such as the train lighting, ensuring watering, toiletries and cleanliness of the coaches and station platforms.
He said that Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been devised for cleanliness of trains and stations by the headquarters office to ensure clean and green Pakistan.
The official said that the pace of refurbishment of coaches has been enhanced by the department to provide better travelling facilities to the passengers.
He said that policy for indigenization of manufacturing of coaches at Carriage Factory, Islamabad is vigorously being pursued. New Power Vans (300 KVA) has been introduced to ensure uninterrupted supply to the coaches.
