Bride Files For Divorce After Groom Calls Her Donkey During Wedding Ceremony

In an unusual case from Egypt, a bride has filed for divorce after being publicly insulted by her husband during their wedding ceremony. The bride, Rania, a 30-year-old doctorate holder, married Ali, a 33-year-old doctor, based on his education, but claims she quickly discovered his true nature.

According to Arab media reports, the incident occurred when Rania slipped and fell during the wedding ceremony. As she attempted to stand, her groom, Ali, insulted her in front of the guests, calling her a “donkey.” This derogatory remark deeply humiliated Rania, prompting her to take legal action.

Rania explained in her court filing, “I fell to the ground, and as I was trying to get up, my husband shouted at me, calling me a donkey. He said, ‘Get up, donkey,’ in front of everyone.” The situation escalated when Rania’s brother intervened, confronting Ali with the same insult, leading to a heated argument between the two families. Following the altercation, Rania left the wedding and returned to her parents’ home instead of going to her in-laws.

A few days later, Ali attempted to reconcile and take Rania back, but her family refused. When Rania demanded a divorce, Ali declined, leading her to file for separation in court.

The case has sparked discussions on respect and dignity within marriages, highlighting the consequences of public humiliation, even in the early stages of marriage.
