Has Babar Azam announced retirement from Test cricket?

Babar Azam

LAHORE – Pakistan’s former skipper Babar Azam has been facing backlash for his unimpressive performance in recently concluded two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi.

Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by six wickets in a rain-affected second cricket Test to convincingly sweep the two-Test series 2-0 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. Bangladesh had last week won the first Test by 10 wickets after Pakistan had declared their first innings at 448 for six.

Babar Azam, who stood at No 12 in ICC Test rankings after slipping three spots, made only 64 runs in four innings of the two Test matches.

He was also dismissed for no runs in the first innings, marking his first duck out on home ground.

Amid criticism from public, a social media post claimed that the right-hand batsman has announced retirement from Test cricket.

The post, which has been shared on social media platform X, features an alleged statement from the Pakistani batsman.

When the post was investigated, it turned out to be fake as there is no official announcement from Babar Azam in this regard.
