At least 27 dead as passenger trains derail in India

NEW DEHLI (Web Desk) – At least 27 people have died while dozens other were seriously wounded when two passenger trains, Kamyani Express and Janata Express, derailed over a small bridge in central India, media reports said.

The incident took place on Tuesday late night near town of Hardana in Madhya Pradesh state. More than 300 people have been rescued during the operation, senior railway officer was quoted saying. 11 females, 11 males and 5 children were among dead, he confirmed.

He further said that investigation is underway to find out the reason behind this deadly accident.

According to initial reports the accident occurred at a small bridge where track was flooded by heavy monsoon rains which caused the trains to derail one after another. The findings however added that another train passed the same bridge ten minutes ago without any problem.
