OGRA notifies increased prices for gas consumers as winter nears

ISLAMABAD – Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) notified revised prices for various categories of retail consumers of gas companies with effect from September 27, 2018.

According to the notification issued on Thursday, domestic consumers consuming up to 50 cubic meter will be charged Rs 121 from previous from Rs110 while those using 100 cubic meter will now pay Rs 127.

Moreover, Rs 264 will be charged for 200 cubic meters and Rs 275 for 300 cubic meters; Rs 780 will be paid by users of 400 cubic meters, Rs 1460 for use of 500 cubic meters and more.

The gas prices have also been notified for different kinds of commercial and industrial consumers and the government  has created seven slabs of residential consumers instead of existing three slabs

The federal cabinet had approved the tariff increase on Sept 17 and according to experts, the 143 per cent increase in natural gas tariff is intended to generate about Rs111 billion.

Talking to newsmen on Thursday, Minister for Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan said the substantial tariff increase was necessary as the previous PML-N regime had frozen the hike for five years.
