MULTAN – Police on Saturday arrested absconding brother of slain social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch with the help of Interpol.
Police officials said Mohammad Arif had been handed over to Muzaffarabad police station in Multan; he had been declared an absconder in the murder case which prompted calls for legislation to thwart honour killing.
A day after Qandeel’s murder in 2016, another brother of Baloch, Mohammad Waseem had confessed before the police that he had killed the social media celebrity, saying she brought ‘dishonour to the Baloch name’ with her videos and statements posted online.

Waseem had alleged that his sister had a ‘bad character’ showing no remorse over his action.
Moreover, Waseem had informed the court his brother Mohammad Arif had asked him to kill Qandeel as he (Arif) felt ashamed due to her conduct.
According to Wasseem, Arif was in Saudi Arabia at that time and had directed Waseem to flee to Saudi Arabia after killing Baloch.
The arrests came days after a trial court sentenced Waseem to life in prison, while acquitting five others, including a third brother, Aslam Shaheen.
As Waseem remains imprisoned in Multan’s Central Jail, Arif has yet to be charged by a court for his alleged involvement in the case.
